ABOUT DAN KNOX

“I’ve built a strong foundation of public service through work in education and political organizing. For the past three years, I’ve served as a Student Success Technology Specialist at Pierce College, where I led the implementation of Starfish—a campus-wide student support platform—coordinated training across faculty and staff, and used data to advance equity in student outcomes.
Before that, I supported academic services as a Peer Academic Support Specialist, streamlining programs and analyzing performance metrics. I also cultivated community and leadership skills in residence life roles at Saint Martin’s University and the University of Maine at Farmington, supervising teams, managing budgets, and ensuring inclusive programming.
Beyond my professional roles, I actively engage in electoral politics: I serve as a Precinct Committee Officer and have hold leadership positions in the 29th LD Democrats as Chair and the Pierce County Young Democrats as Secretary. I’ve canvassed, organized volunteers, and supported multiple progressive campaigns in Pierce County, partnering with labor, environmental, and tribal organizations to elevate working families and sustainable initiatives.
Through every role, I’ve prioritized transparency, equity, listening, and effective stewardship of public resources—qualities I will bring to the Port of Tacoma to ensure it strengthens communities, advances environmental responsibility, and creates opportunity for all."
"I grew up in an industrial town where the water was polluted and industry moved on without cleaning up after itself. I’ve carried that with me into every room I’ve worked in—knowing that unless institutions are held accountable, it’s working families who bear the cost. That’s why I want the Port of Tacoma to be more than just a logistics hub. It should be a model of climate resilience, labor solidarity, and economic equity." - Dan
